D B T

I specialize in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).  DBT is an evidence-based treatment (meaning there is research data which demonstrates that it works) which is designed to help clients learn to manage strong emotions, tolerate distress, and have effective interpersonal relationships. A big part of DBT is learning specific coping skills to help with these things.  DBT for clients consists of 3 parts:

  1. Individual therapy

  2. Skills training group - a weekly class to learn coping skills

  3. Phone/text coaching - coaching from your therapist between sessions if you are in a crisis

There is a 4th part for the therapist, which is belonging to a DBT consultation team, a group of DBT therapists which meets regularly to improve therapy skills.  If you’d like to know a bit more about DBT, see the YouTube video called “What the Heck is DBT For Adolescents?” for a good overview.  It is great for non-adolescents, too.

DBT is used to treat many mental health challenges. If you’re not sure if it’s the right fit for you, this is something we can explore in a first session.
